KOOXLA has come out with his debut album.
Out today, July 8th, OUTSIDE.EXE is described as a “ten-track project celebrating self-discovery and embracing [the] unconventional,” and spans genres across the spectrum of East Coast club music, techno, Latin bass, and more. The record was recorded in his living room in Queens over the last three years.
“This body of work is a summary of the last three years or so of my life as a music producer, DJ, and aspiring human,” KOOXLA tells HEADS KNOW. “The title can be interpreted in a few different ways; on one hand, it is about venturing beyond one's artistic comfort zones/zones defined by the current musical and cultural zeitgeist. More literally, it is about seeking connection beyond the computer screen, which many music producers need to be reminded to do every so often (we spend a lot of time in our own heads). We often forget that part of creating music is actually listening to music and connecting with others; it is those emotions that, when bottled/packaged in a DAW, create memorable moments.”
He continues: “OUTSIDE.EXE as a whole can be a place, an emotion, or a memory. In a musical sense, it's about seeking comfort in the undefined; moving beyond strict genre guidelines and using scraps to build something new. But most importantly, it is for euphoric ass shaking at the club.”
KOOXLA is a New York City-based producer with releases on Juke Bounce Werk, Clasico Records, and Rare Frequency Transmissions. His club-focused productions have become a staple on dancefloors across the world.
