Finals Blog reveals first-ever compilation album
Finals + Friends features tracks from zayALLCAPS, Tomu DJ, and the Finals founders.
New York City-based platform Finals Blog is coming out with its debut compilation album.
Out on Thursday, June 5th, Finals + Friends will include 11 cuts from familiar faces like zayALLCAPS, Tomu DJ and YoungLove Erix, kimdollars1, and Khris P. The site’s founders, DJ Suspence and Andrew Matson, will also be featured on the record as the opening and closing tracks. Along with the announcement, Finals has also released the project’s debut single by Stas THEE Boss, called “Pretty Boy In Spring Colors.”
“The point of this comp[ilation] (aside from it being a crucial document of my taste, lol) was for me to do something generative with music itself, instead of talk about it or criticize it like I normally do,” Andrew Matson told HEADS KNOW. “I organized [Finals + Friends] with musical heroes I’m blessed to call friends. Generativity for me goes hand in hand with being social. I’m an extrovert and I’m just trying to build with people I respect, admire, and love, and put forward a vision for music that is flavorful and free. Hopefully it inspires other people to do similar stuff or branch off and do their own things.”
He continued: “I’m 43, and one thing I learned in social work school was that psychologist Erik Erikson’s main psychosocial challenge for middle aged people is to pursue generativity over stagnation, as a way to lowkey guide the next generation. I think he was onto something. So I’m organizing events (“Generator” is on June 1st at CWW Radio Shop with Tomu DJ and Laron), making music with friends, doing my blog and mentoring writers, and, starting with an idea from Finals cofounder and silent partner, DJ Suspence.”
Finals Blog launched in 2020 as a music and culture publication with a goal of bringing back 2009 blogging. It’s since expanded to host a music marketplace and live events around New York City. Its “Stakes Is Low” party series launched the DJ career of HEADS KNOW founder, Arielle Lana.
